THE VINCENT SERIES

This is the second part of ‘The Vincent Series’. The first part of the series titled ‘Vincent’, accounts of his childhood, and his transition into adulthood, concluding on the day of his one hundred and fiftieth birthday.

The tale begins with a startling snapshot of the future, as we are introduced to a man named Vincent, whom appears to be the focal point of an incredibly elaborate celebration, taking place at a soccer stadium in the heart of a city. In lavish fashion it is revealed that this celebration is indeed to commemorate his three hundred and thirtieth birthday, remarking him at this point as a global icon, and the subject in question.

After the prologue, the story jolts back in jarring contrast to Vincent celebrating his seventh birthday quite plainly in the care of his Uncle Henry. Vincent does not know upon awaking that his uncle has planned to take the two of them to the zoo for the morning to commemorate the day. Within minutes of being at the zoo Henry falls as if dead from what appears to be a bee sting. Young Vincent is hauled away in the back of an ambulance, presumably to the hospital to meet Henry.

The ambulance does not go to the hospital, but rather to a well funded medical facility where Vincent meets a peculiar and most sinister ‘leather skinned man’. He is then placed within a controlled habitat, under a glass dome. There he spends the next fourteen months being experimented on with terminal and sinister means, however all to no avail. It is clear that young Vincent is being shot, burnt, stabbed, gassed, and immersed in water, but accounted from the young boy’s perspective, it is all a bit of fun, really.

Vincent is deemed completely impervious to harm, but this fact begins to loosen the minds of his captors. A fatal error occurs within the medical facility as a result of a dispute between several of the maddened doctors. A gas leak erupts, causing panic within, and Vincent seizes the opportunity to escape his unnatural habitat, and the medical facility, as it crumbles behind him. Emerging up to the surface and into daylight, he finds himself in a movie studio production lot. Confused, afraid, and alone, Vincent flees the lot, and proceeds as far as he deems appropriate before finally settling down for the night on a park bench.

The next morning, young Vincent is discovered by the esteemed entrepreneur Robert J. Cooper whilst out on his routinely morning walk. Robert not only appears to know who Vincent is, but is also in possession of his dog, a greyhound named Charlie. It is implied that Robert knows much about Vincent’s family, but nothing is immediately divulged. Robert decides to adopt Vincent, despite strong opposition from his housekeeper, Angela and her influences on Robert’s other adopted child, Madison.

With Vincent’s escape from his captors finalized, and no trace of his current whereabouts, several elite organizations are formed and tasked with discovering the whereabouts of young Vincent, and bringing him back into custody. The most relentless and active of these organizations code named Project Sound, is lead by Director William Hordo. Hordo hand-picks a group of tactical elitists to track down the current whereabouts of Vincent, who could be considered as hiding in plain sight in the care of Robert J. Cooper.

Robert begins educating Vincent in the ways of the world, and together they learn more about his invulnerabilities through a series of household tests. Thereafter, Robert is revealed to be Vincent’s uncle, on his father’s side. Vincent is overjoyed to be among family once again. However, this direct relation drives a large wedge between Madison and Vincent. Soon thereafter, Robert’s housekeeper, Angela finds herself unable to come to terms with Vincent’s condition and popular association. Angela has Madison seized by child services, and the two of them leave the company of Robert J. Cooper and young Vincent.

Vincent grows desperate for answers about his parents, and while at the park enjoying the day with Robert, he finally begins to ask some tough questions. Robert spares no facts, recognizing the young boy as being quite naturally brilliant. Robert begins to explain how the global economy at one point hinged on the collective fortunes of the ten wealthiest families on earth, their every move impacting the state of global affairs. Vincent’s estranged mother, the ringleader and wealthiest woman alive, Valerie Day had put in motion a pretentious scheme to purchase the planet Mars with the force of the ten family’s combined fortunes and efforts. The ten families then left the overpopulated, poor, and dying earth at their backs, to start anew in their own elect society. Their offer was accepted, as their multitrillion dollar investment would have restored economic control back to the global banking system. Prior to departing from earth, Valerie divorced her husband and left both him, and their newly born son, Vincent without so much as a cent of their combined assets behind. However it was publicized that the transport did not make it to Mars and all ten families were lost, causing an unprecedented debate over their financial assets and global impact.

After this revelation between Robert and young Vincent, the story then introduces a man by the name of Corrie Scott Park, who sets out on his day to destroy a popular neighboring restaurant. Having just suffered a severe psychotic break due to an emotionally taxing divorce, Corrie makes his way to the restaurant, and prepares to unleash a devastating attack. As he locks the front doors and mentally prepares, he notices a young boy enter the men’s washroom, Corrie follows him in with the intent of stabbing him to death. It is revealed that this young boy is Vincent, and Corrie is baffled as his stabbing attempt fails, and he drops his bent knife to the ground. Young Vincent manages to talk Corrie out of the messy ordeal entirely, saving the lives of all within the restaurant.

Corrie Scott Park admits himself to a psychiatric hospital, but this was not without trace, as many eyewitnesses, and Corrie’s confession led it to become a news item. Project Sound becomes aware of the situation. Immediately both Robert and Vincent become compromised, but are assisted with a daring gambit by the estranged Project Sound operatives Sandra Young, and Mike Couiyk. Sandra and Mike flee the city, and Vincent’s whereabouts are veiled once more.

As Vincent begins to grows into maturity, he decides to adopt the alias, Edward Cooper, in order to protects his identity. He moves out from his Uncle’s penthouse and into a basement suite under the tenancy of the quirky Mrs. Dejardines, who’s idea of rent is to teach her tenant’s jazz piano. It is during this period of time that Vincent courts Jennifer, a peculiar, attractive girl that he develops great interest in.

After a brilliant jazz piano performance, accompanied by the raspy vocals of the aging Mrs. Dejardines, Vincent discovers that not only does Jennifer know his true identity, but that she is also going by a false name as well. In a peculiar twist of chance and fate, it appears that Jennifer is actually Madison, Robert’s estranged stepdaughter. Vincent and Madison fall in love and eventually marry.

Upon graduating from police academy, Vincent begins his childhood dream job, but it is not everything he thought it would be. While working a very uneventful beat, Vincent elects to abandon protocol and engage in a high-speed foot chase as he pursues a fleeing thief. He chases the thief back to his apartment and apprehends him, but upon return to the precinct he is immediately reprimanded by Captain David Freshette. Freshette divulges that he knows very well of Vincent’s true identity and what he is capable of. He then blackmails Vincent into an arrangement of impossibly dangerous vigilante operations. However, Vincent is unaware of the Captain’s allegiances, and motives to end his life so he enters the arrangement quite willingly. In addition to this, the leather skinned man from Vincent’s childhood is reintroduced as the unstable, deformed and viciously lethal assassin, Gunmetal Grey.

Over time Vincent gains a strong underground reputation, and soon finds himself competing in a Pistol Pandemonium match at a lethal gunfighting club. Aided by a fellow gunfighting competitor known only as The Spaniard, and his friend and fellow officer, Fred Alward, Vincent gains access to the gunfighting club with intention to disrupt the event and apprehend the organizers. The arrangement goes terribly sour, as David Freshette arrives on the scene and challenges Vincent’s allegiances. Vincent lashes out in anger at the Captain, draws his aim on him, but does not fire. Vincent is arrested.

After several long hours in a cell, Vincent is released and makes his way home to his wife, Madison. Soon after arriving home, the house bursts into flames, and Madison is taken captive into the back of a black sedan. Vincent pursues the vehicle, and discovers that given the right amount of anger and motivation, he can push his legs to accelerate him at inhuman speeds. Nevertheless, the vehicle evades Vincent, and he is left only with a phone call from Gunmetal Grey to guide him.

Vincent discovers that Madison is being held hostage by Gunmetal Grey, who demands to know why Vincent is invincible, and further, the name of his childhood father-figure, that he might be lead to the truth to satisfy his own curiosities. Vincent reluctantly reveals the identity of Robert J. Cooper in...
