While excavating a cave in Egypt, Amanda Sorenson and her team of archaeologists discover an ancient room with artifacts never seen before on Earth. They find a skeleton in a sarcophagus that isn't human. One of the rooms in the cave has seven door-like recesses carved out of the wall. Amanda and her colleague Jack discover that they are magical portals, each leading to another world. When their sponsors from London learn about the skeleton and discover that it isn't human they make immediate plans to take over the site and send Amanda and her team away.  Desperate to learn what they can before the others arrive, Amanda and Jack explore each portal. As they explore the worlds they begin to piece together the mystery of the seventh portal, which is unlike the other six. They meet new friends along the way that accompany them on their journey.
