CHAPTER 1
A Shocking Day in My Childhood
My Subconscious Programming for Success
“The first six years of a child’s life, it is like a tape recorder is on. Everything it sees, smells, touches, experiences in any way, whatever it hears, is being downloaded into the brain before the consciousness of the child is even made apparent.”
– Bruce Lipton
“Good evening, Ms. Natalia,” my Auntie Bahyt respectfully greeted an older woman in a sky-blue medical uniform. Ms. Natalia was my school nurse. “How is my Gulnara?” Bahyt asked. Until this day, I call my Auntie Bahyt “Mummy,” because she is the one who played a significant role in raising me since my mother left when I was three.
“Not so well, I am afraid,” Ms. Natalia replied with a concerned expression on her face. Bahyt’s heart started racing.
“I am sorry to say, but you need to shave her head.” The nurse paused. “It has to be done as soon as possible … actually, right away.”
After the nurse explained the necessity of this measure, Auntie Bahyt looked at me, sitting in the far corner of the class, with empathy and sadness, thinking about how to break this news to me …
I was six years old, and this was one of the unluckiest days of my childhood.
Let me start from the beginning. Growing up, my favorite thing to do was to spend time with elders in my neighborhood. I loved their wise and inspiring stories, and their knowledge of life and the Universe. At that time, in the little town in Kazakhstan where I grew up, we did not have community centers for seniors.
There were no wellness, recreational, or social programs for elders. Their main entertainment was to meet in our courtyard and chat. For some reason, I always wanted to make them happy. So I and other children on the block decided to organize weekly concerts for our elders. I lived with my grandmother, my uncles, and my aunties. Our spacious apartment was on the ground floor, with a balcony facing the courtyard. I decided to use the balcony as our stage and put the audience chairs in front of the balcony.
We were a team of a few enthusiastic child-organizers, who would spend weekends handwriting and coloring the invitations and programs for each concert. We would recruit the neighborhood children to perform dances, songs, and read poems, and we would research our own pieces, and make simple decorations for the shows.
For us, little children, and the elderly spectators, those weekly concerts were the highlight of the summer. I was so proud that I had a very responsible role! I was the Master of the Ceremony, and the lead performer. I can still remember the happy faces of the elders watching our shows, and the standing ovations after each performance!
On that one Friday evening when my Auntie Bahyt came to pick me up from school, she was told by the nurse that they found lice in my hair. To my dismay, we did not have a medical remedy to get rid of those annoying hair insects. My auntie took me straight to a barber, who skillfully used a shaving machine to fix the lice problem! I was looking down and watching my beautiful long curls falling on the floor. In less than 10 minutes, I was walking home with a shiny, bald head.
With tear-filled eyes, I turned to my auntie as we walked back home:
“I have a concert tomorrow. Tomorrow … my hair will not grow so fast. How can I be the Master of the Ceremony, and the lead performer, with no hair and such an ugly head? It is bald! I look like a boy!”
I came home and saw my grandmother taking out hot potato pastries from the oven. For a moment, the smell of fresh baked goods and the big smile on my grandma’s face made me forget about my grief.
As I was walking to my room, I saw a pair of brand new, beautiful hair ribbons with red polka dots. Huge tears started streaming down my cheeks. I ran to the kitchen and threw myself into my grandmother’s soft arms, weeping in total hopelessness.
“People will laugh at me … I cannot perform like this … I will let the other children down because I cannot announce them now … We need to cancel the show.” I started sobbing even louder.
My plump, cute grandmother who had raised me since I was three, gave me her usual warm hug and said:
“Sweetie, people will always love to see you perform, with or without the hair. You entertain them with so much love! Plus, you are still beautiful.”
I did not believe my grandmother at first, but when I looked at her, I saw so much love and genuine admiration in her eyes. Her words cleared my initial thoughts to cancel the show.
The next day, I brought her my new ribbons and asked her to tie them up. The grandmother looked at me with astonishment and asked: “Sweetie, where should I tie them?”
“My ears,” I answered with determination. These ribbons will make me more beautiful!’
My grandmother followed my instructions, then looked at me with a big smile and told me:
“You are like sunshine. When you come out, everything will become brighter. You look absolutely stunning, my girl!”
There I was, a 6-year-old girl with a bald head and red polka dot ribbons tied around my ears. A confident Master of Ceremony leading the show, performing a few dances, and entertaining everyone. As soon as the show started, that little girl completely forgot about the loss of her beautiful curly hair and the pain from her throbbing red ears due to the tightly tied red ribbons.
I still think that on that particular day, I had the most successful performance of my life, and the most amount of people laughing with, or at, me! I felt unshakable happiness in doing what I loved, despite the loss of my hair and the fact that by the end of the concert, my ears turned purple!
My dream was to make people happy. My wish was to make a difference. I did not know how to do it. I always wanted to make people smile, laugh, and find joy. Today, I can say that my dream did come true. I live with purpose and have a lot of love in my heart.
My grandmother had only attended four grades of school and could not even write. With no education, and with a huge amount of love and kindness in her heart, she knew how to program my subconscious mind. She found those very right words and managed to convince me that I looked beautiful regardless of my baldness. Her belief gave me the confidence to perform and succeed.
That unshakable faith in me was my ticket to success and my deeply instilled program that I AM UNIQUE AND I CAN ACHIEVE ANYTHING I SET MY MIND TO.
Welcome, My Dear Friend, to Child and the Child Within.
In this book, I will share with you my knowledge on the importance of your subconscious thoughts, and how these thoughts have an impact on all aspects of your life. Specifically, I will look at how subconscious programming in our childhood years can have a strong impact on our ability to achieve financial freedom and success in many areas of our adult lives.
It’s true! We all have a money story. Yes, even you! Every single adult on this planet has a relationship with money that is initially informed by events we may not even remember. Your INNER CHILD is holding onto the learning about money that it did decades ago.
Your INNER CHILD picked up this knowledge in a variety of ways; a few examples are:
1. What YOU observed in the actions of your parents and other authority figures.
2. What YOU were taught by your family, friends, and teachers.
3. What YOU began to believe as fact on the reaction of others to your actions.
Our subconscious is powerful. Can you imagine all of the time it has had to wire and rewire those beliefs in those years since you were little. Once you understand this concept and are willing to explore your own personal money story, you will be that much closer to the financial success you know you can achieve.
Perhaps you picked up this book on the advice of your higher spirit, or your intuition, because both know that this is the information you need to hear right now. Perhaps you prayed with all your heart for answers, to know why, no matter how hard you worked, or how much effort you put into it, you still could not break through your long-standing financial or other life problems. Perhaps you finally decided to solve your struggles, and your subconscious mind brought you to my book.
Whatever you have done in the past, I know one thing: Your time has arrived, and you are ready to learn!
You are ready for a sustainable and positive change in your life. In this book, you will find many reminders (because I believe that you are a wise reader and already know a lot), and will discover the ways in which three things—like identifying, re-programming your negative beliefs, and practicing your new positive beliefs—can change your life. More importantly, this book will help you not only change YOUR OWN LIFE dramatically, but also the lives of the CHILDREN IN YOUR LIFE.
While writing this book for YOU, with all my heart, I want YOU to enjoy our journey together by...
