Perryman, Michael
Michael Perryman has had a thirty-year career with the European Space Agency (ESA), initially as the scientific leader of the Hipparcos astrometry mission. He was the co-originator (with Lennart Lindegren) of the Gaia astrometry mission, a project expected to make an important contribution to many areas, including exoplanet science, in the coming years. He was ESA's project scientist for Gaia from 1995–2008, establishing the payload concept, technical feasibility, operational and data analysis principles, its organisational structure, and coordinating its scientific case. He chaired the Gravitational Observatory Advisory Team for the implementation of ESA's LISA gravitation wave mission (2014–2016) and has previously held positions as Professor of Astronomy at Universiteit Leiden (1993–2009) and Bohdan Paczynski Visiting Professor at Princeton University, New Jersey (2013).
