Organized into 29 chapters, this edition begins with an overview of the function of the thyroid gland to trap and concentrate iodine, harness it in organic combination, and then to secrete it into the blood. This text then discusses the evolutionary scheme showing the development of thyroid gland as a special organ for the control of iodine metabolism. Other chapters consider the various types of thyroid diseases, including simple goiter, acute inflammations, Grave's disease, and granulomatous diseases of the thyroid. This book discusses as well the etiological or clinico-pathological basis of the classification of simple goiter. The final chapter deals with the post-operative complications of thyroidectomy and their treatment. This book is a valuable resource for physicians, surgeons, and clinical researchers.
