Algal Bioprospecting and Bioprocessing: Current Trends and Future Perspectives explores the rapidly evolving field of algal biotechnology and emphasizes the increasing importance of marine and freshwater algae as sustainable sources of bioproducts. By highlighting recent advancements and industrial applications, it aims to promote translational research and promote a circular bioeconomy within the blue economy framework. The book covers a wide array of topics, including algal biomass processing, bioactive metabolites, proteins, pigments, and biorefinery strategies. Key chapters look into advanced extraction techniques, genetic engineering, and the development of high-value products such as omega-3 fatty acids, oligosaccharides, and biopolymers. The book also explores the role of algae in sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, biofuel production, and space missions, providing a holistic view of current research and future prospects. Algal Bioprospecting and Bioprocessing: Current Trends and Future Perspectives is primarily for university students, academics, researchers, and professionals interested in applied phycology and marine biotechnology. This book also appeals to aspiring algapreneurs, industry experts, and policymakers. It encourages a scientific approach to harnessing algae’s societal benefits and promotes understanding of innovative technologies transforming micro- and macroalgae into valuable industrial products within a sustainable, circular economy.
