Employed authors are in a legal area of conflict: On the one hand there is the copyright postulate of the autonomous creator. On the other hand, labor law rates the author as a creative person who exchanges his work for money. To whom should the copyright belong? The legislature only touched on this conflict-prone issue with section 43 UrhG. Although the topic is again of interest in research, the historical dimension continues to be a terra incognita. The present study on the Weimar Republic is an attempt to make the previous understandings of 'dependent authors' in today's legal dogmatics transparent through historical elucidation. In an interplay between connection and distancing, offers are made for the current application of law as well as critical self-observation for the jurisprudence in copyright and labor law.
