1. Why did you choose this topic?

The choice of this topic stems from a growing discomfort I felt, as a scholar in Critical Animal Studies and part of leftist and intersectional movements, in an environment marked by mutual distrust and division. I wanted to understand why animal liberation struggles often fail, and how a deeper critique of capitalist society could help rebuild effective alliances.

2. What new perspectives does your book offer?

The book develops a materialist and intersectional framework to understand how animal domination is structurally embedded in capitalist societies. Going beyond moral arguments, it bridges Critical Animal Studies, Marxism, and intersectionality to overcome reductionist views and rethink speciesism as a key element in the production and reproduction of our social life.

3. What makes your topic relevant for current research debates?

Climate change, pandemics, and food crises have exposed the urgency of rethinking human-animal relations, yet mainstream and even critical theories often ignore or treat them anthropocentrically. This book brings animals back into focus by linking their domination to the structures of capitalist society, expanding debates on justice, ecology, and social change.

4. Choose one person you would like to discuss your book with!

I would love to discuss my book with a key figure from each of the fields it engages with: Dinesh Wadiwel, for Critical Animal Studies; Michael Heinrich, from the Neue Marx-Lektüre tradition; and Judith Butler, for queer-feminist theory. Among other things, I would especially like to discuss with them the concept of the anthropological form I introduce.

5. Your book summary in one sentence:
