In the higher education sector, social media and open learning practices have influenced not only the ways students connect with each other, but also the ways scholarship is organized, delivered, enacted, and experienced. Yet the ways that social media are used and experienced by academics are not well understood and the evidence describing the experiences of instructors, researchers, and learners engaged in open practices is limited and fragmented. Networked Scholars examines scholars’ practices and experiences with social media and online social networks and provides a qualitative and ethnographic perspective on what actually happens in these environments.
The book concludes with suggestions for institutions, individual scholars, and doctoral students regarding online participation, social media, networked practice, and open scholarship.
