VFR travel is the largest form of visitor movement around the globe – a stable, sustainable and resilient form of tourism – yet rarely covered by tourism textbooks

This book provides a timely examination of visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel to understand the current landscape of this substantial form of visitor movement. It examines the principles, dynamics and implications of VFR travel and what these can mean for destinations and tourists.

The geographically diverse contributions cover key issues, including mobilities, diaspora, second homes, marketing, health and ageing, gentrification, genealogy, adoptee tourism and work–life balance. The volume concludes by exploring likely future trends and future directions for VFR travel research.

It is a valuable resource for students, researchers and industry practitioners in tourism and leisure.
