Hasan al-Turabi (1932–2016) was seen as one of the most influential figures in modern Sudanese history and politics. Willow Berridge is a Lecturer in History at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Her research focuses on the twentieth-century Islamic world, focusing on government and Islamic politics in Sudan. She is the author of Civil Uprisings in Modern Sudan (2015), focusing on her time spent there during the Arab uprisings in 2011.
