Emerging from cognitive behavioural traditions, mindfulness andacceptance-based therapies hold promise as new evidence-basedapproaches for helping people distressed by the symptoms ofpsychosis. These therapies emphasise changing the relationship withunusual and troublesome experiences through cultivatingexperiential openness, awareness, and engagement in actions basedon personal values. In this volume, leading internationalresearchers and clinicians describe the major treatment models andresearch background of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) andPerson-Based Cognitive Therapy (PBCT), as well as the use ofmindfulness, in individual and group therapeutic contexts. The bookcontains discrete chapters on developing experiential interventionsfor voices and paranoia, conducting assessment and caseformulation, and a discussion of ways to work with spiritualityfrom a metacognitive standpoint. Further chapters provide detailsof how clients view their experiences of ACT and PBCT, as well asoffering clear protocols based on clinical practice. This practicaland informative book will be of use to clinicians and researchersinterested in understanding and implementing ACT and mindfulnessinterventions for people with psychosis.
