Nach einer Einführung in das Themengebiet Energetische Materialien werden im ersten Teil Verfahren zur Herstellung partikulärer energetischer Materialien beschrieben: Zerkleinerung, Kristallisation, Zerstäubungstechnik, die Herstellung von Partikeln unter Anwendung überkritischer Fluide sowie Verfahren zur Mikroverkapselung von Partikeln, Agglomerationsphänomene, Besonderheiten beim Mischen von Explosivstoffpartikeln und die Herstellung von Nanopartikeln. Im zweiten werden Techniken und Methoden zur Größenanalyse, zur Morphologieaufklärung sowie der Ermittlung der chemischen und thermischen Eigenschaften vorgestellt. Die Benetzbarkeit von Pulvern und das rheologische Verhalten von Suspensionen und Festkörpern sind ebenfalls Bestandteil des Inhalts. Weiterhin werden Methoden zur Ermittlung der Leistungsfähigkeit partikulärer energetischer Materialien beschrieben.
Jedes Kapitel behandelt sowohl die Grundlagen, als auch die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten des jeweiligen Verfahrens mit besonderem Hinblick auf partikuläre, energetische Materialien.
