Today’s international commercial law regime is firmly based on two complementary instruments: the U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), which sets rules for sales contracts, and the more comprehensive UNIDROIT Principles, which also apply to more complex contracts such as those for services, construction, and investment. The UNIDROIT Principles have also proven their value in contract drafting and dispute resolution.
UNILEX fulfills the need for a comprehensive guide on how both instruments are interpreted and applied in the various contracting states. It provides
• detailed abstracts of all cases decided under both instruments by courts and arbitral tribunals worldwide;
• the full text of each decision in ist original language (when available);
• the complete texts of the CISG and the UNIDROIT Principles;
• all reservations and declarations of CISG States Parties;
• a bibliography for each instrument, listing all significant references both by category and by article; and • a subject index.
Currently, UNILEX reports over 500 cases and includes nearly 2,000 bibliographical references—numbers that increase rapidly with each annual update. No lawyer or business executive handling international sales, services, or construction contracts should be without it.
The reporting system was originally conceived as a research project of the Centre for Comparative and Foreign Studies (a joint venture of the Italian National Research Council, the University of Rome, and the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law—UNIDROIT).
