Covering topics of radio astronomy, this book contains graduate-level problems with carefully presented solutions. The problems are arranged following the content of the textbook Tools of Radio Astronomy, 6th ed. by T.L.Wilson, K. Rohlfs, S. Hüttemeister (also available in the this Springer series) on a chapter-by-chapter basis. Some of these problems have been formulated to provide an extension to the material presented in Tools of Radio Astronomy.

Thomas Wilson completed a Ph. D. thesis in physics under B. F. Burke entitled “Radio Studies of HII Regions” in 1969. He then held a four month postdoctoral fellowship at NRAO, after which he joined the Max-Planck-Inst. f. Radioastronomy (MPIfR) in Bonn, Germany. He was Director of the Sub-Millimeter Observatory in Tucson AZ, from 1997 to 2002. In 2004, he moved from MPIfR to the European Southern Observatory (ESO). He was Project Scientist for the Atacama Large Millimeter/Sub-Millimeter Array (ALMA) at ESO from 2004 to 2006, and Associate Director from 2006 to 2008. During 2009-10, he was Senior Scientist at ALMA in Chile. From 2010 to 2015, he was a staff scientist at the US Naval Research Laboratory and from 2015 to 2017, he was a Program Director at the US National Science Foundation.

Susanne Hüttemeister received a Ph.D. in Astronomy by the Bonn University. She had a position as Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Cambridge (USA) and teaching assignments at RWTH Aachen (Aachen Technical University) and Bonn University. Dr. Hüttemeister is now the Director of Bochum Planetarium and Adjunct Professor at the Astronomy Institute of Ruhr University Bochum.
