For the past three decades and with its around 5,000 employees, the Vienna International Centre (VIC) has been a powerful and important contributor to the Viennese (and Austrian) economy.
As a long-standing employee of international organisations such as the World Bank and UNIDO, the editor Annemarie Mannoia-Boaglio is truly accustomed to international practices.
With this book she accomplishes a unique achievement by bridging the gap between Vienna and Austria on one side, and the VIC on the other.
Current and former employees share exciting and moving moments of their careers and give an account of their life in Austria.
Understanding how the UNO City in Vienna functions: “The United Nations in Austria – Facts, Adventures and Anecdotes”.

Annemarie Mannoia-Boaglio was born and raised in Austria. In her early teens she moved abroad to explore and discover the world. She continued her studies in England, Spain and France, before starting her professional career at the Foreign Office in Vienna, where her first post was at the Austrian Embassy in Belgrade. There she met and married an American diplomat, whose assignments took her to Pakistan, Jordan, Germany and the USA.
After several years of working with the World Bank in Washington D.C., she moved to Vienna, where she managed information at UNIDO. The role provided her with extensive exposure to numerous international organisations, their missions, and the staff making them a reality. Utilising these contacts, she introduced key people of various organisations to the relevant counterparts at the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, enabling and fostering an environment for greater cooperation.
As a result of her efforts, she was honoured by the Austrian government for her work in bringing international organisations and the Austrian government closer together.
Annemarie has two sons who live in Vienna and London. She currently resides in Turin, Italy, where she is married to an Italian entrepreneur.
