This book discusses the key ideas and pedagogical interventions behind research with young children, aged 4-10, while developing two new software applications for improvising and composing. MIROR Impro and MIROR Compo are based on the concept of reflective interaction, which advocates and supports the need for children’s own ideas to be taken into account during creative music-making, enhancing children’s agency and musical identity. Drawing from international sources, the book offers new perspectives on the role of music technologies in formal education, and provides illustrative and innovative examples of adaptive learning environments for teaching using reflective music technology.
