The History of Trade Union Organisation in the North Staffordshire Potteries (1931) is an account, by a potter and trade unionist, of trade unionism in the pottery industry of North Staffordshire. It describes the efforts of a century to create a stable organisation capable of negotiating on equal terms with the employers from the first spasmodic struggles of 1825 down to the establishment of the powerful National Society of Pottery Workers in 1919. As well as being a study of the economic background and working conditions, it is also a study of the growth and organisation of the pottery industry.
