Dr. Farshad Darvishi Harzevili earned a BSc in biology at the University of Guilan, Iran. He earned his MSc and PhD in industrial microbiology and microbial biotechnology from the University of Isfahan, Iran. He is currently a faculty member and head of the microbial biotechnology and bioprocess engineering (MBBE) group at the University of Maragheh, Iran. His main interest is in the biotechnological and environmental applications of yeasts, especially the use of agro-industrial wastes and renewable low-cost substrates in the production of biotechnologically valuable products such as microbial enzymes and biofuels. He is also interested in the expression of heterologous proteins, metabolic engineering and synthetic biology of yeasts.
Dr. Ir. Serge Hiligsmann earned a Master degree of chemical engineering and a PhD Degree in engineering sciences at University of Liège, Belgium. He is currently head of the 3BIO-BioTech unit at Brussels Polytechnic School of Université Libre de Bruxelles. His researches are situated in the field of biotechnology and bioprocesses. More precisely, he investigates and develops biotechnological processes for production of cell biomass, metabolites and bioenergies based on aerobic or anaerobic fermentation and/or valorisation of residual organic materials.
