Tarun Kumar Gangopadhyay received his bachelor’s in electrical engineering (B.E.E) with first class in 1989 and Master of Electrical Engineering (M.E.E.) with first class in 1991, both from the Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India. He graduated Ph.D. in December 2005 in the field of fiber-optic sensor from the School of Electrical & Information Engineering, The University of Sydney, Australia. His Ph.D. thesis title is: “Measurement of Vibration using Optical Fibre Sensors”. He worked there in the field of single-mode fiber-based sensors and fiber-optic interferometers. Recently (2019), he is retired from CSIR job where he was working as Chief Scientist (Scientist-G) in Fiber Optics and Photonics Division, of CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), Kolkata, India. Simultaneously he was also the Head of the Computer Division at CSIR-CGCRI. At this moment (from 2019) Tarun Kumar Gangopadhyay is joined as a full time Professor in Electrical Engineering Department, Techno India Main Salt Lake (TMSL), Techno India University, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700091. He is now actively involved in teaching and research related to several aspects of Electrical Engineering and Fiber-optic sensors. His current research interests are the development of Bio-medical sensors, Fiber FPI Sensor, Chemical sensor using Fiber loop resonator for cavity ring down spectroscopy (FLRDS), Chemical sensor using photonic crystal fiber (PCF) and packaging of fiber-optic sensor for industrial application, etc.He has authored several numbers of international refereed journals, three patents, Six Book Chapters, and 37 Nos of conference contributions and proceedings at international conferences and meetings. He is also the author and editor of one book, “Photonics and Fiber Optics- Foundations and Applications”, CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group, (coauthored with Prof. P. Kumbhakar, and Prof. M.K. Mandal). He is a recipient of several awards including Senior Membership of Optical Society of America (No. 951188), awarded of one-year honorarium membership of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 1998 and awarded an UKIERI- England project -2017.
