Nates, Sergio F
Dr. Nates is currently the President of the Latin American Rendering Association and the former President & CEO of the Fats and Proteins Research Foundation. He is also the former Vice-Chairman of the Animal Co-Products Research and Education Center (ACREC) at Clemson University. Dr. Nates is a member of the Board of Directors of the Global Aquaculture Alliance and the Chairman of the Feed mill Certification Committee - GAA. Through his work at the association and the GAA Board, Dr. Nates promotes the advancement of aquaculture, research and education in aquatic resources, and financially supports international scientists and partnerships. Sergio Nates earned his B.S. and Lic. Degrees from the National University of Costa Rica in marine biology and aquaculture, respectively, and was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Environmental Biology. He also completed a National Academy of Science Post-Doc in Endocrine Disruptive Chemicals. Prior to joining FPRF, Nates was vice president of research and technology at Zeigler Bros., Inc., a Pennsylvania specialty feed company providing products for aquaculture, exotic bird, reptile and research animal diets. Sergio started his career working for the shrimp aquaculture industry in Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico, including managing several farms and hatcheries. Over the last twenty-five years of his career, Sergio has specialized in assisting the development of responsible fishing and aquaculture practices. He has also developed and implemented comprehensive management & research programs worldwide; product development, ingredient value models, formulation standards and quality assurance programs. He is the author or co-author of several book-chapters and over 100 publications.
