Braslina, Elina
Elina Braslina (1988) is an award-winning illustrator from Latvia. She has illustrated almost thirty titles so far, most of them children's books and young adult novels by Latvian authors, including Luize Pastore's popular “Art Detectives” series. Elina's work has been nominated for local awards, and she has received the Zelta Abele Award for Book Design four timed, and was awarded the Janis Baltvilks Baltic Sea Region Award in 2017. She made her international debut illustrating Kate Wakeling's collection of poems, Moon Juice, published by The Emma Press (UK), and has since then worked with other publishers abroad. She created the illustrations for Lawrence Schimel’s poems “Bedtime, not playtime” and “Early one morning”, which have been published in 15 languages, with more forthcoming. Elina is a production designer with the Latvian animation studio Atom Art, and was the artist in charge of the animated feature Jacob, Mimmi and the Talking Dogs. She is currently working on a new animated film, Born Happy. Elina is also an artist, and takes part in exhibitions both in Latvia and abroad, and also teaches at the Art Academy of Latvia. In addition to her illustration, Elina has translated a number of books into Latvian, and several Latvian books into English (and together with Lawrence Schimel, one picture book into Spanish).
Schimel, Lawrence
Lawrence Schimmel ist hauptberuflicher Schriftsteller und schreibt auf Spanisch und Englisch. Er hat über 100 Bücher zu vielen unterschiedlichen Themen veröffentlicht. Er ist auch ein sehr produktiver Übersetzer. Seine Bilderbücher wurden für den „White Ravens“ der internationalen Jugendbuchbibliothek ausgewählt, zweimal mit dem IBBY (Preis für herausragende Publikationen für junge Menschen mit Behinderung) ausgezeichnet und haben den den Crystal Kite Award der „Society of Children’s Book Writers and illustrators” gewonnen. Seine Bücher sind in viele Sprachen übersetzt worden und seine Kinderbücher wurden für zahlreiche Preise nominiert.
