James Joyce’s evocations of his characters’ thoughts are often inserted within a commonplace that regards the mind as an interior space, referred to as the ‘inward turn’ in literary scholarship since the mid-twentieth century. Emma-Louise Silva, Ph.D. (2019), University of Antwerp, is a postdoctoral researcher and visiting lecturer at that university. She has published articles on an array of Joyce-related topics, and has co-edited two volumes, including James Joyce and the Arts (Brill, 2020).
