Pioneering research has been carried out over the last decade onmentalization and the promotion of mentalizing capacity - theability to interpret the behavior of oneself and others as based onintentional mental states, such as needs, desires, feelings, andbeliefs. This book is a consolidation of current knowledge andclinical applications, bringing together a group of internationalexperts who have been on the ground floor of theory and research toclarify the concept, review pertinent neurobiological andpsychosocial research, and explore its diverse clinicalapplications.
Four sections will cover Conceptual Foundations, DevelopmentalPsychopathology, Intervention and Prevention. A biopsychosocialapproach will be used, integrating new research in neuroimagingwith psychodynamic and cognitive perspectives. Clinical issuescovered will include parent-child interactions, personalitydisorders, traumatic brain injury, bullying and at-riskchildren.
