This book is a theoretical and pragmatic tool that applies mathematical modelling in understanding and managing diabetes and related complications such as diabetes predisposition, diabetes onset, regular glycaemic monitoring, glycated haemoglobin HbA1c, diabetes homeostasis, gestational diabetes and other associated diseases and conditions. Chapters in the book provide mathematical models dealing with the dynamics of insulin/glucose, the evolution from pre-diabetes to diabetes without and with complications, gestational diabetes and the association between diabetes and benign prostatic hyperplasia. It also applies new methods such as data mining, machine learning and deep learning. By offering pragmatic examples and comprehensive reviews on mathematical models used for diabetes, this book is useful for advanced researchers, academic teachers, students, scientists and high pharmaceutical industry executives willing to start modelling.

Abdesslam Boutayeb is Honorary Professor in the Department of Mathematics, University Mohamed Premier, Oujda, Morocco. He also is Visiting Professor at the Emirates Aviation University, Dubai, UAE. He obtained his Ph.D. in numerical analysis from Brunel University, UK, in 1990. His main research fields are in numerical analysis, mathematical modelling, public health and health equity. With over 13 edited books and over 100 research papers published, of which 33 are on diabetes, 35 chapters in books and 20 conference papers, he has supervised 7 Ph.D. theses of which 3 were on mathematical modelling for diabetes. As a consultant with the World Health Organization (WHO), he has written 7 reports on public health, health equity and social determinants of health mainly in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region.

Mohamed Lamlili El Mazoui Nadori is Professor in the Department of Mathematics, University Mohamed Premier, Oujda, Morocco. He obtained his Ph.D. in mathematical models and bioinformatics applied to heart disease (under the supervision of Prof Abdesslam Boutayeb). He has published 32 papers/chapters, 6 conference papers (15 papers/chapters devoted to diabetes and mathematical modelling) and co-edited 2 books. He has a great experience in technical editing by using LaTeX.
