Professor Arthur Geoffrey Dickens (1910–2001) taught at Keble College, Oxford, the University of Hull, and King’s College London, before becoming Director of the Institute of Historical Research 1967-1977. His particular interest was in English religion and society. His wartime experiences led to a second interest in German history and the German Counter-Reformation.Finberg H. P. R.:
Professor H. P. R. Finberg FSA, FRHistS (1900-1974) was a publisher and Head of Department of English Local History at Leicester University. He was editor of the Agricultural History Review and published widely on early charters and regional history.Fines J.:
John Fines FRHistS (1938-1999) was a medieval and ecclesiastical historian and educationalist. He pioneered innovative methods of teaching history, about which he wrote and lectured, and was part of the Nuffield Foundation’s Primary History project. Gaston Denis Gilmore (1911-1979) was a solicitor in a Bedford firm. In 1974 he became keeper of Bedford Borough muniments.Hull Peter:
Peter L. Hull (1924-1994) worked in Bedfordshire County Record Office for Joyce Godber, moving to Cornwall as County Archivist in 1955. He wrote several articles and pamphlets about Bedfordshire, including Bedfordshire letters of Bunyan’s day with A. T. Gaydon (1955) and edited volumes for the Devon and Cornwall Record Society.
