Abu al-'Abbas al-Ya'qubi was a Muslim imperial official and polymath of the third/ninth century. On the occasion of the publication of The Works of Ibn Wadih al-Ya'qubi. An English translation, edited by Matthew S. Gordon, Chase F. Robinson, Everett K. Rowson, and Michael Fishbein (Leiden, 2017-2018), Brill is making the classic Arabic edition of al-Ya'qubi’s Ta'rikh by M.Th. Houtsma (2 vols., 1883) available in paperback for the first time.
Volume 2 covers the period from the rise of Islam to the first years of the Reign of Caliph al-Mu'tamid 'Ala ’llah (r. from 256/870). The text ends c. 259/872-873. The current volume offers the Arabic text only. The English translation is found in Volume 3 of The Works of Ibn Wadih al-Ya'qubi.
