Performance-Based Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings: Advanced Modeling and Applications presents a comprehensive exploration of advanced techniques essential for evaluating and improving the seismic resilience of reinforced concrete structures. The book emphasizes nonlinear analysis and integrates theoretical foundations with validated experimental data, enabling precise assessment of building responses to earthquakes. Special attention is given to structures in high-risk regions and older buildings not originally engineered for seismic loads, guiding readers through cutting-edge methods to preserve structural integrity under varying forces. This resource stands out by making complex seismic evaluation concepts accessible to engineers, researchers, and technical professionals.

Beyond foundational modeling, the book systematically details the behavior of critical structural elements such as beams, columns, joints, walls, and diaphragms, supported by real-world case studies. It highlights performance-based design strategies and retrofitting approaches, offering a robust framework for enhancing the durability and safety of both new and existing buildings. With contributions from leading Korean experts, this volume equips readers with indispensable insights and state-of-the-art tools to advance seismic design practices, promote long-term resilience, and improve safety standards in the built environment.

Park, Hong-Gun
Hong-Gun Park graduated from the Department of Architecture at Seoul National University in 1985 and completed the master's program in 1987. After graduating, he worked as a structural designer for two years at the Jeonwoo Structural Design Office and then went to the University of Texas at Austin in 1990, where he received his PhD in 1994. From 1995 to the summer of 1997, he worked as a director of the Comrades Structural Engineers Office. He was then appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Architecture at Seoul National University from the second semester of 1997 and has been working there since. Currently, he teaches two courses in architectural structural systems and reinforced concrete for undergraduate programs, and finite element application and architectural seismic engineering for graduate programs. His research expertise includes concrete structural design, analysis, earthquake-resistant design, and composite structural design. Prof. Park is the past President of the Korea Concrete Institute (KCI) and at present, he is the President of the Korea Protective Facility Institute (KPFI). He is also a member of two national academic societies in Korea (NEAK and KAST) and a Fellow member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). He received The ACI Chester Paul Siess Award for Excellence in Structural Research twice, in 2009 and 2012.
