Relations between Singapore and her immediate Malay neighbours have been perennially fraught with tension and misunderstanding. Lily Zubaidah Rahim is a Senior Lecturer in Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney, Australia. She is a specialist in the comparative politics of Southeast Asia, with a particular research interest in the politics of identity, authoritarian governance, regionalism and reformist Islam in Southeast Asia.
