Biochemical and Molecular Mechanisms of Secondary Metabolites in Metabolic Diseases explores the therapeutic potential and pharmacological roles of secondary metabolites (SMs) in managing metabolic disorders. This comprehensive volume provides a detailed examination of the biochemical pathways, molecular mechanisms, and pharmacodynamics of SMs, offering insights into their potential as future drug candidates for metabolic diseases. The book begins by explaining the differences between secondary and primary metabolites, providing a clear classification and organization of SMs. It highlights recent research on SMs, including receptor interactions and molecular signal transduction pathways, to showcase their potential as interventions against metabolic disorders. The role and mechanistic details of SMs at the molecular level are illustrated, emphasizing their pharmacological participation in treating conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and inflammation. This book is an essential resource for students and professionals in pharmacy, medical subjects, nursing, herbal medicine, and traditional medicine programs, aligning with curricula in medical ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, and related fields. It also serves as a valuable reference for researchers in pharmacology, biochemistry, and medicinal chemistry, as well as clinicians interested in natural product-based therapeutics for managing metabolic conditions. Additionally, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, academics, and industry professionals working in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and diagnostics will find this book highly beneficial for understanding the pharmacodynamic parameters, bioavailability, and potential drug-drug or food interactions of secondary metabolites.

Rehman, Kanwal
Dr. Kanwal Rehman is working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy in The Women University, Multan, Pakistan. Dr. Rehman received her PhD in Pharmacology from Zhejiang University, China. She nurtures
a keen interest in the pathogenesis of metabolic disorders and new therapeutic modalities for its treatment. Currently, she
is focusing on the investigation of the role of pharmacogenomics based upon gene polymorphism on various molecular and
metabolic pathways that are involved in mitogenic disorders and treatment strategies, like natural biogenic compounds against different risk factors of metabolic disorders, including pancreatitis, cardiometabolic disorders, and hormonal imbalance. Dr. Rehman has also been awarded the Research Productivity Award by the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, Pakistan; the PAS Gold Medal from the Pakistan Academy of Sciences; and the A.R. Shakoori Gold Medal from the Zoological Society of Pakistan.
