Rugg, Gordon
Gordon Rugg is a former timberyard worker and field archaeologist who is now a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Keele University, where he is head of the Knowledge Modelling Group. He is also a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Open University.

Gordon Rugg is a former field archaeologist and English lecturer turned computerscientist, who is now head of the Knowledge Modelling Group at Keele University.He has a first degree in French and Linguistics and a PhD in Psychology. Hisresearch includes software evaluation, mediaeval cryptography, the origins ofhandedness and training needs analysis for store detectives.Marian Petre has a first degree in Psycholinguistics from Swarthmore College in theUSA, and a PhD in Computer Science from University College London. She is aReader in Computing at the Open University, UK and a former EPSRC AdvancedResearch Fellow. Her experience includes running doctoral consortia at internationalconferences, giving tutorials on research methods in the UK, US and Europe, andpresenting at a variety of research workshops for PhD students as well assupervising and examining doctoral students. Her research interests include designexpertise and representation.Gordon and Marian are also the authors ofThe Unwritten Rules of PhD Research(Open University Press, 2004).
