Pricking Tines in Love Life
There was a girl named Myra. She belonged to a strictly orthodox family. She was not allowed to be free towards her dreams: not even allowed to select her choice of clothes. She had a gifted voice and used to sing in front of her friends and relatives but not in front of her family members because she was not supported by them. She was a kind, sensitive and philosophical personality. She was an average student. Till the time when she was in her class 7, her nature was kind of jolly type and she was unbeatable in her ability of making friends. But what an irony! She was never able to find true friends in life. Since she was in her teenage, many of her batch mates started developing that ‘spoiled teenage thing’ in their nature, so her peer group too was becoming sort of like that. Myra had a close friend Ayana that time. Once there was a book exhibition in Myra’s school. Myra and Ayana were not fond of reading books but they were fascinated by a secret-keeping diary available there which used to open only through a specific passcode. They bought one each for themselves and were very excited about their new possession. Both of them knew each other’s passcodes. But since the atmosphere around them those days was quite inappropriate so, they too tended to become somewhat like that. Whenever Myra wished to yell at anyone or simply wanted to empty out hate for somebody, she used to scribble abusive things to that particular person against whom she held grudges. Ayana was changing her peer group, but Myra still didn’t feel alone. Myra made that diary her new bestie.   Myra started developing a soft corner for a guy named Shawn. Shawn was a studious kid and had the perfect talent of playing guitar. Myra realized that she was falling for him. But this was not the first time; she used to like him as a friend ever since she was in class 5 but she wasn’t sure about how she felt for him. She started writing her feelings for him in that diary. She used to be very cautious about keeping it at her home because it used to get inspected by her grandma regularly. Her grandma was always very suspicious regarding her things even when Myra did nothing wrong. But ever since the diary came in Myra’s life, her grandma kept a full-time eye on her. One day when Myra was playing outside, her grandma went into her room and began searching for something like crazy. When Myra came back, she was shocked to see grandma in her room. “Where is your school bag Myra?” asked grandma rigidly. Myra was trembling with fear but handed over her bag to grandma. “What are you searching for?” asked Myra, pretending to seem fine. But grandma didn’t reply and kept on searching. At last, grandma found the diary. Myra was pale. “What’s the passcode?” grandma asked. Myra told her that she had written her secrets in the diary and she doesn’t want to reveal them. Grandma was boiling with anger hearing to this reply and she called everyone in the family to that room. She asked Myra’s dad to break the passcode lock and open the diary and alas! They were successful in doing so. They read all of it. Myra was slapped by her grandpa and scolded a lot by everyone. The scandal had such a level of intensity that they wanted Myra to change her school and even scared the heck out of her that they would break relation with her.    Myra realized that she was wrong. She was incredibly ashamed of what she had done. She begged everybody for another chance and apologised, but still her grandpa, her dad and her mom didn’t talk to her for about a week but then she promised everyone that she will definitely become what they want her to be in future. She promised them to work hard. Gradually, everyone forgave her as she started to score better and ultimately excellent grades. She left everything; all her hobbies including singing and talking to any of her friends. Her teachers were surprised of her remarkable performance. She was a bookworm then. Her personality changed; she had a sense of responsibility associated with her, so she also developed some kind of attitude that she was a person who is hard to reach and remained reserved. This was a whole revolution in her life. She kind of forgot about the feelings she had for Shawn even though they were classmates since past six years. Now, it was a new session, class 8, a fresh start, a new journey… Myra didn’t want to befriend anyone that year. To her convenience, coincidentally, all the sections were shuffled that year and this time Shawn was not in her class. But she met a girl named Sia who was her classmate. She was a brilliant student. Myra was kind of impressed with her skills. Sia was a calm and bright girl. Eventually, Sia also started to like Myra’s nature and finally they became close friends. Sia was also a reserved person, didn’t have friends so she showed wonderful blending with Myra. Both of them topped their class that session yet they had beautiful memories of fun together. For the first time, Myra felt that she has got a true friend. Myra although used to have a friendly nature initially but she never found true friend in anybody. Myra used to get inspired from Sia and never wanted to get separated as friends.     But that year, was the only happy year for her. The very next year for class 9, the sections were reshuffled and Shawn was again in her class but Sia was not. Both Myra and Sia were disheartened but they had no choice. A similar scenario was there with Sazel; one of Myra’s new classmates. Her best friend also got separated from her. As soon as Myra noticed that Shawn was in her class again, for a while she forgot the despair. Sazel was sitting next to her on the first day of class 9. Myra asked her the reason for her sadness.  Sazel told her what was wrong. “It’s okay; sometimes we can do nothing except for going with the flow. Something same has happened with me and Sia too. We can be friends if you don’t mind.” Myra said. So gradually, Myra’s friendship with Sazel grew deeper. Sazel was also a girl who had a friendly nature. She knew many of her classmates already. Though Myra was new to every group of students, she soon befriended another girl Azzy who was an intelligent kid. Azzy had a huge friend cycle but her best friends were Annie and Adam. Annie and Adam shared a variety of things in common; both of them loved to read books and had a grip on English language so it took them no time to become friends. Myra became the new member of that group but to her surprise, she discovered that Shawn was also a good friend of Azzy, Annie, Luke and Adam; in fact, Adam was Shawn’s best friend since six years. Sazel didn’t like Azzy’s group much so she didn’t join them. Sia and Myra were still in touch. Myra did not use to talk to boys much after that diary incident but Sazel had majority of guys as friends. Whenever Sazel used to be around them, Myra went down to Azzy’s group and Sazel did the same when Myra used to be with Annie, Adam and Azzy, but there were boys in Azzy’s group too still Myra did not mind because those were the studious ones. Sazel used to tell Myra to try being in the company of some boys. “Myra, maybe you haven’t noticed but guys aren’t back-bitchers like girls are. They’re cool to accompany.” Sazel said to Myra one fine day. Myra observed some relevance in Sazel’s words so she tried to start talking to boys as well. Most boys in her class thought that Myra hated boys and they were not expecting her to be this friendly. Peter and Mathew were close friends of Sazel, Myra was introduced to them and she blended well. So finally, things were going smooth. Myra used to approach Shawn asking for notes and to discuss assignments. Shawn was very sweet to everybody and so he was sweet to her too. Yet, Myra was not sure if she was just was attracted to him or it is really something that she wanted or was expecting to happen. It was a cheerful session for them.   The same batch of students was promoted to class 10. Azzy and Sazel coincidentally joined the same tuition classes that year and so they became good friends by accompanying each other over there. Annie and Myra too, got blended well. So now, Sazel’s group and Azzy’s group were merged. All the friends used to have a great time together and the whole set of these kids were nice at academics. So once more, it was a contentedly studious and fresh start of the new academic session. Everything was going fine until one fine day, just a day before the summer vacations started; Sazel came running to Myra and cried like, “Did you get to know the thing about Shawn and Annie?” Myra was absolutely clueless but then Sazel told her that, “Everybody is talking about both of them today. Do you have any idea that Shawn has a crush on Annie?”  Myra’s heart skipped a beat but then within a second she acted very normal seeming not to pay much attention to this and said, “Oh it’s not a big deal, this is very common these days!” and then both of them went home. Myra did not happen to believe that it was true and ignored this piece of information as a rumour. After the vacations were over and the school reopened, Myra noticed that almost everybody knew about this. Everybody around her had this hot topic to discuss. But, sardonically, neither Annie nor Shawn had a clue of what was going on from ear to ear. Gradually, by the first semester was over, people started irritating Shawn by Annie’s name; every single classmate was involved. When this rumour finally...
