To date, there have been few books that systematically address what is being done in Fukushima to secure and revive the livelihoods of those affected by the nuclear disaster.
This book explores the challenges and prospects in recovery and rebuilding efforts in Fukushima, providing a greater understanding of the effect of the disaster locally and regionally in Japan. Little is known about the lives of people in the vast ‘grey zone’ areas, outside of mandatory evacuation zones, but still within the higher-than normal radiation areas. This book examines what is being done in these regions, exploring issues at institutional, national and international levels in communities and businesses, focusing on topics such as food production, agriculture, water access, transport, industry and renewable energy.
