River restoration projects are designed to recreate functionalcharacteristics within a context of physical stability. They tendto focus on the development and application of geomorphicprinciples for river restoration design. Due to different modelsobtaining different results on the same problem, incomplete orabsent data, and climatic/social/cultural changes, the designersand managers of such projects frequently face high levels ofuncertainty.
This book will provide a systematic overview of the issues involvedin minimizing and coping with uncertainty in river restorationprojects. A series of thematic sections will be used to define thevarious sources of uncertainty in restoration projects and howthese show at different points in the life cycle (design, construction and post-construction phases) of restoration projects. The structure of the book will offer a rational theoreticalanalysis of the problem while providing practical guidance inmanaging the different sources of uncertainty. A wide range of casestudies will be included from Europe, North America andAustralasia
