This book deals with a long term pollution situation, generated by the former use of organochlorine pesticides. Through a study case of the chlordecone pollution in the French West Indies, the authors illustrate a global and systemic mobilization of research institutions and public services. The hope is that this "management model", together with its major results, the approach and lessons to be learned, could be useful to other situations. It gathers all the works that have carried out over the last ten years or more and links them to decision makers’ actions and stakeholders’ expectations. This reference fills a gap in the literature on chronic pollution.

Magalie Lesueur Jannoyer (Dr): Agronomist at the Cirad research institution, France. She obtained her PhD in Agronomy in the National Agronomical Institute Paris Grignon (INA PG) in 1995. Since 1999, she has been working in the International Research Center for development (CIRAD) as a senior researcher. She has more than 15 years of experience in research and development projects in tropical horticultural crop management and environmental impact assessment, as well as the management of fruit quality and safety. In recent years, her main subject of interest has been soil pollution assessment and management. On the request of 5 French Ministries, Cirad appointed Jannoyer to represent the institution in the Study and Prospective Group to first evaluate and then manage the soil pollution in the French West Indies. From 2008 to 2013, she worked on the agronomical research actions in the National Action Plans "Chlordécone" in collaboration with research institutes and university involved in the Plans. Philippe Cattan (Dr): Agronomist at the Cirad research institution, France. He graduated from ENSAM (Montpellier) in 1982, holds a PhD (INA P-G) and a HDR "Accreditation to Supervise Research" from the Université des Antilles. He has been working, in Guadeloupe (FWI) from 1999, on the hydrological functioning of banana fields and watersheds, as well as on the consequences of agricultural practices on the states and properties and outflows of soils. He is currently working on the modelling of water and pesticides transfers in a cultivated watershed in volcanic and tropical conditions in collaboration with Lisah team (Inra, IRD, Montpellier, France). He coordinated several projects (national project ANR Chlordexco, regional UE funds).Thierry Woignier (Dr): A physicist working in CNRS-IRD. He has over 25 years experience in different sectors startingin 1981 as an engineer researcher working with Corning France (Paris) and Aerospatiale (Bordeaux) in the field of materials sciences. He has also been involved in the organization of 9 International Conferences. He is recognized as an expert by CEA (French nuclear agency), OFTA (French Observatory of Advanced Technology), INAO (French organisation of label accreditation ' soils characterization '), and the Office Parlementaire d’ Evaluation des Choix Scientifiques et Techniques "Chlordecone".
