Part I - Basic Guardian Angel Information The guardian angels of life sometimes fly so high as to be beyond our sight, but they are always looking down upon us.
–Jean Paul Richter In almost every workshop, presentation and angel talk I give, I am asked a few basic questions about angels. I wanted to offer this foundation information, assuming you may have these questions yourselves. As an angelologist, I study and research angels, I talk to them and watch how they interact with us in the world. I also study and read ancient and modern texts and talk to people about their experiences with angels. There are many wonderful women and men in this field of angelology working extensively with angels. You will be guided to them by your Guardian Angel, if you wish. What follows are some of the most widely held theories about angels at this time. As we continue to study these amazing beings of light, more will be revealed, and we will expand our knowledge. But for now, this is what we know. Do I have a Guardian Angel? Everyone has a Guardian Angel. It has been my experience that everyone has at least one Guardian Angel. Some people have more than one. It is not better or worse to have more than one, it just depends on what that person needs to complete what they came here to do. We are all different, with different life purposes. I have found, though, that a person who has many angels in their angel band usually has signed up for a life of service in some way. The more we are of service to others and this planet, the more angels come to help us. Who are we to our Guardian Angels? Guardian Angels call us their “charges.” They are our best cheerleaders; helping, guiding, protecting, and loving us. They are very serious about their work with us. It is a big responsibility to be the Guardian Angel of a human. It is sometimes tough to be incarnated, and they know that. Just as if you had a child that you cared for or that was in your “charge,” we are their charges, even though they treat us as adults with full decision-making power. They are very devoted to us and concentrate their efforts to help us throughout our lives. Why are angels here? Angels were created specifically to be the emissaries between the Divine and creation. All of creation has angels, not only our planet Earth. There are a gazillion angels in many, many different forms. There are many books about the different hierarchies, choirs, phylum, and classifications of angels. But for simplification, I will only speak about those angels we are concerned with in this book, our Guardian Angels. They are placed in the general category commonly called “angels,” and are those closest to our physical plane. Do we have more angels than our Guardian Angel? We do have other “personal angels” who work with us, and I like to call this group our “angel band.” Some are with us for a lifetime, and others are a bit more fluid, coming in and out of our energy fields as we need them. The director of this vast “angel band” of ours is our Guardian Angel. The other angels in our angel band have other specific duties. Some help with finances, romance, health, knowledge, spirit endeavors; the list is endless. When does our Guardian Angel come to us? Our Guardian Angel comes to us prior to birth to help us in this lifetime and stays with us through death. They help guide us upon our soul mission. Our soul mission is what we have planned to do to evolve our soul in this particular incarnation, or lifetime. We call our Guardian Angel in specifically to help us so we don’t miss our destiny. We actually choose our Guardian Angels, and we all pick a very powerful angel specifically for this purpose. However, at the time of birth we forget our soul mission so that we may have free choice. It is a gift to have free choice on this planet. Guardian Angels know our soul mission but are not allowed to tell us, though they will guide us to our next steps along the way. It is up to us to follow the desire of our hearts; this will lead us to our soul mission one day and moment at a time. Can my Guardian Angel tell me what my life purpose is? Many times a client will say to me, “Please ask my Guardian Angel what my life purpose is.” The answer will come back something like, “To love others,” “Open to receive,” or “Have more joy.” But mostly, I won’t hear anything, just a blank connection; a void. They clam up about this because a more specific answer wouldn’t be in our best interest; it might scare, overwhelm, or be misinterpreted by us, so they just shut up about it. What I have found over the years of talking to angels is they will answer more freely the question, “What are the next steps that this person can take that will lead them to their soul mission?” Whoosh, they are all about that. Usually so much specific information comes through that it has to be written down. Guardian Angels can get very specific when you ask the questions in the “right” way, a way that will not interfere with our free will or harm our growth at all. It is always helpful to ask open-ended questions to receive the most details. But sometimes it is sufficient to ask yes/no questions if you want a quick answer. For example, “Is this the best job for me?” The answer may just come back as “yes” or “no” without any more specifics. This is especially convenient when you are at an interview and you don’t want to go into much detail until you are home with pen and paper for a full conversation on the subject. Is my Guardian Angel someone related to me who has died? Sometimes a person will tell me that their dead grandmother or relative is now their Guardian Angel. I understand what they are saying, and certainly that deceased loved one is watching over them, but angels have never been human. We as humans have a different evolutionary path. Angels were created for a specific purpose, to be the liaison between the Divine and creation. Sorry, but we can never become true angels. What I tell people is that you want someone more powerful than Grandma as your Guardian Angel, and you want that angel to be with you from the beginning of your life through to death. Deceased Grandma can be part of your spirit guide group, which I will discuss in a minute, but she can never be a Guardian Angel, per se. Now, having said that, there are new theories about what are called incarnated angels. These are angels who have taken on human form for a whole lifetime to be of service to this planet. Dr. Doreen Virtue’s work has some interesting information regarding this theory. You may identify with her work; it is very valuable. She is the first angelologist who has identified this phenomena. My experience with “Earth Angels” is that I see very deep connections with angels in their energy fields. I cannot venture to guess at this time why and where that connection came from, but I wish to commend Dr. Virtue and her work in this field. Angels usually tell us that they are glad to be angels, because being human is so hard. They say, “You have to deal with so much density to be on Earth, but we are honored to help in any way we can. We applaud you!” I am glad that they are with us, guiding and supporting us–we all could use more of that. Angels usually do their work with much more joy than we do ours. They strive to uplift us at every opportunity. There are so many differences between us and them. One is that angels are able to change the way they look and are not just stuck with one body like we are. They do tend to favor one look over another, but you may need a mean-looking dog to walk you home and not a feathery, sweet angel; they are able to become what you need at the time. They also do not seem to have lifespans–they do not die. Their evolutionary process is still a mystery to us. It appears that they do not tend to evolve to archangel status and beyond from ordinary angels, but we don’t know that for sure yet. The movie It’s A Wonderful Life has made popular the idea that angels need to earn their wings. So far as I have heard from the angels, this is only a cultural belief based on the movie. Great movie though! Can angels do what I ask them to do? Angels do only Divine will. If your request of them is in alignment with what is best for you and in line with love and of your heart’s desire, angels will hurry to service. My favorite angelic experience that illustrates how angels answer prayer is the chapter on prayer in Betty Eadie’s book, Embraced by the Light. She talks about how angels rush to answer prayers that are intense and faith-filled as well as prayers that are to help others. Some people ask me how they can tell if they are really speaking to their Guardian Angel. They may have been told in the past to be careful because a negative energy might disguise itself as an angel. But as you will learn, we always open angel communication with a prayer. In the prayer we ask for protection and Divine light. This will block any negative energy from entering your space. Be assured that light is stronger than darkness and that you will not call in negative forces when working with Divine white light and protection.
