Researching minority, marginalised or ‘othered’ populations poses particular methodological challenges. This is the first book to focus on researching difference in the context of sport, physical activity and physical education. Presenting case studies of real research projects, the book explores how difference, in regards to both representation and portrayal, affects the practical application of a research methodology. It considers the boundaries that must be crossed when researching people who are far removed from the researcher, because of culture, gender, race or disability for example, and how that can, or should, affect research study design and method.
