The purpose of this book is to illustrate the struggles of Deaf women as they negotiate their family, educational, and work lives. The scope of the book traces these women's lives in these three major sectors of their lives and provides a discussion of the implications for other linguistic minorities.

Cheryl G. Najarian is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She is also a Faculty Associate in the Center for Women and Work. Her research interests include interdisciplinary approaches to the topic of women and work in Sociology, Gender Studies, and Disability Studies.
