Susana Salgado is a political communication scholar. Currently, she is a Principal Research Fellow at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-ULisboa, Portugal) where she also teaches Political Communication. Salgado previously held positions as FCT Research Fellow at ICS-ULisboa, Portugal, Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, UK, and Assistant Professor at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal.  Over the last few years, her comparative research projects have been broad in geographical scope, and include several projects on Europe, but also on Portugal and Brazil and an extensive analysis of the role of the media in African democratization processes from a comparative perspective. The topics of her most recent research include populism, online hate, polarization, and disinformation. She has been responsible for several funded research projects, such as ‘Streams of hate and untruth?’, or ‘Politics, Policy, Populism and Online and SocialMedia’.Stylianos Papathanassopoulos is a Professor of Media Organization and Policy at the Department of Communication and Media Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece. Between 2007 and 2011 he was the head of the faculty and member of the Board of the Hellenic Audiovisual Institute. Further, he is a Visiting Professor at City University, London, United Kingdom. Previously, he was Deputy Director of the University Research Institute of Applied Communication (URIAC) and Deputy-Head of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Technological University of Cyprus, and he has also taught at the University of Helsinki and the University of Sheffield. Additionally, Papathanassopoulos is a member of the Euromedia Research Group. He is currently Director of the postgraduate program in Journalism and New Media, as well as Director of the Laboratory of Journalism Studies both at the Departmentof Communication and Media Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.
