Since the first edition of this book was published in 1994, state and federal agencies have increased enforcement of their hazardous waste disposal laws in laboratories. The ACS Task Force on Laboratory Chemical and Waste Management supports the Joint Board/Council Committee on Chemical Safety in the advancement of safety, health, and environmental stewardship in chemical laboratories. This is done by monitoring federal and state law- and rule-making, informing laboratory professionals to help them understand and comply with environmental health and safety (EHS) requirements, and inspiring good laboratory EHS management
practices.
