Anke Fischer-Kattner, Dr. phil. (2011), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, is teaching History at Bundeswehr University in Munich. Her work focuses on practices and representations of cultural contacts, whether peaceful or violent. Her publications include Spuren der Begegnung: Europäische Reiseberichte über Afrika 1760–1860 (Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2015).
Jamel Ostwald, Ph.D. (2002), Ohio State University, is Professor of History at Eastern Connecticut State University. He has published on early modern European military history, including Vauban under Siege: Engineering Efficiency and Martial Vigor in the War of the Spanish Succession (Brill, 2007).
