[Secularism and the Authority of the Scripture]
The Bible (Old and New Testament) is the foundational document of the church and the integrating reference point of all Christian theology. This applies particularly to Reformation theology. In this context there is a development from the reformatory reference to the Bible as authority in matters of faith and doctrine to the modern sense of truth which sees the recognition of the scripture in relation to its evidence for subjects and communities. Church history retraces this historical changes in describing the development of theology against the background of the interpretation of the Bible. Protestant theology must be able today to describe how an authority in belief can develop. How does authority of the Scriptures present itself in a post-authoritarian time?
