Author David Wann's nine non-fiction books and five award-winning TV documentaries advocate for community-based, resource-conscious, equitable changes in American politics and values. In this first novel, Tickling the Bear: How to Stay Safe in the Universe, he also draws upon his experience as an organic gardener, founder of a co-housing community, proud husband and father, and amateur musician to create credible characters that navigate a world threatened by environmental and social collapse. Through the strength of vulnerability, the power of authentic connections, and an essential dose of humor, they find acceptance and clarity to choose how to best live, or die, with gratitude.

It's the year 2017 BC-before Covid. Anthropology professor and futurist Marc Blake, having lost his wife to early onset dementia, receives his own grim diagnosis that sets him, and his closest friends, on an investigative journey of surprising twists-from Colorado to Northern California to Borneo and back-to ultimately find hope, acceptance and appreciation for the gift of life.
