Wilmshurst, Linda
Linda A. Wilmshurst, PhD, ABPP, received her BA and MA in psychology from the University of Windsor and her PhD from the University of Toronto. Linda, a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology (ABPP) and a Registered Psychologist in Florida, has previously held licenses in Ontario, Canada, Texas and North Carolina. For 10 years, prior to coming to the Center for Psychology, in Florida, Dr. Wilmshurst was a Professor in the Psychology Department at Elon University, in Elon, NC where she taught courses in child and adult psychopathology. She was also involved in the supervision of student internships and mentoring undergraduate research, primarily in areas related to resiliency, self-perceptions, and well-being in college students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Dr. Wilmshurst has authored a number of textbooks, including Clinical and Educational Child Psychology: An Ecological-Transactional Approach to Understanding Child Problems and Interventions (Wiley-Blackwell, 2013), Abnormal Child Psychology: A Developmental Perspective (2nd ed.; Routledge, 2017), and Essentials of Child Psychopathology (2nd ed.; Wiley, 2014). In addition, Linda has co-authored three books with Alan W. Brue: Essentials of Intellectual Disability, Assessment and Identification (Wiley, 2016); A Parent’s Guide to Special Education (AMACOM, 2005) and The Complete Guide to Special Education (Routledge Taylor Francis, 2018).
Linda has worked in the public school systems and mental health facilities, internationally. Linda has published articles in scholarly journals concerning programs for children and youth with severe behavior problems and university students struggling with ADHD. She currently works as a psychologist for the Center for Psychology in Fort Myers, Florida.
